You can be the best athlete in the nation, most talented person in the world, but one bad decision can quickly alter the course of your life and land you behind bars. God help us all to exercise discernment and self-control. Small decisions and swerves in judgment can forever alter the course, direction and trajectory of our lives.
Arrest warrants for reckless driving and racing have been issued for Georgia’s star defensive lineman Jalen Carter in connection to the fatal car crash in which one of his teammates and a team staffer died.
This is a sad accident and course of events for the Georgia football star who had an NFL contract and career ahead of him before the tragic incident. Yet, when we drive recklessly, accidents, injuries and premature deaths are bound to happen. I attended high school with a talented athlete who earned a track and field scholarship to the University of Florida. However, when he drove his motorcycle too fast through a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming vehicle, he lost both of his legs and athletic prospects thereafter. Decisions matter, not just on the field, or within your sport, but even those pertaining to how you rest, relax, have fun and entertain yourself outside your sport.
Show me your friends and I will show you your future. My best friend in middle school began selling drugs in college. When I was hitting the books, he was selling meth and went to prison for 10 years once he was arrested. Thankfully, I was smart enough by the grace of God to pull away from my friend as I saw danger lurking in his future. When police come and arrest drug dealers they throw a wide net and many around the head drug dealer often get arrested. Thankfully, I was not one of them because I was buried in books within my college courses. Although my best friend in middle school was driving a fancy new sports car in college and had a lot of money in his pocket, I had my freedom and earned a university education and laid for my future a solid foundation.
The fast road to riches is also fraught with dangers, perils and pitfalls which the undiscerning fail to see before they self-destruct and find themselves in calamity. Beware. Be alert, Guard your heart and live with integrity. Guard your focus. Make wise decisions and protect your lifelong vision.
